The USS North Carolina Battleship Entrusted to the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission in 1960, the Dreadnought battleship stands tall and strong as more than an unmanned capital ship. The USS North Carolina is a permanent memorial and exhibit representing the State’s World War II veterans. Just as her veterans valiantly defended our nation, so did the battleship. Preserved as the World War II vessel she is, the ship is both a memorial and museum portraying the history of all vessels bearing her same name. They include:
The Exhibit The Battleship North Carolina was officially decommissioned in 1947 and houses thousands of artifacts in the Battleship Collection. These artifacts include both the ship’s own and individual donors, most of them former crew members. Some of the items include:
