Following a trend in many American cities, people are making the move to downtown areas to be closer to shopping, dining, and things to do. And Wilmington, NC is no exception. The downtown waterfront community is preparing for the population growth via several new residential and commercial development projects that will increase the number of places to live, places to shop, places to eat, and places to work. One of the highlights is the work being done at the location of the Water Street parking deck. The redevelopment project will turn the long-standing structure into River Place of Wilmington, a 132-foot-tall commercial office building that will increase the number of downtown storefronts.
These development projects will also feature a new, high-end marina.Along the Wilmington riverfront, construction will soon be taking place on Port City Marina. This upscale destination, which is being designed for high-end yachts, will be home to a pier with restaurants and entertainment venues, including a band shell. It’s going to be really huge as it will be able to handle as many as 5,000 visitors. Situated adjacent to the Wilmington Convention Center, the Port City Marina will also feature an apartment complex with space for stores on the ground floor. In addition, there will be such fine restaurants as Vidia Mexican and BlackFinn Ameripub. Of course, these new additions will not only benefit residents but it will improve the stays of tourists who will have many more activities at their fingertips in the downtown Wilmington, NC area.
